PHOTO LIBRARY
Organize, backup, and relive your personal photo collection with AI-powered features. Timeline browsing, album management, face recognition, and GPS map view — all self-hosted.
Your Photos, Your Server
Unlike cloud photo services that analyze and monetize your images, FluxPlay keeps every photo on hardware you control. AI face detection runs locally — your faces never leave your server.
Capabilities
Albums & Timeline
Browse your entire photo collection organized chronologically. Create named albums and pin them to your library home.
Map View
Photos with GPS metadata appear on an interactive map. Zoom into any location to explore memories from that area.
People & Faces
On-device AI face detection clusters similar faces and lets you assign names. Browse all photos of any person instantly.
Device Sync
The FluxPlay mobile app silently backs up new photos over Wi-Fi. Originals remain on your device; the server holds the archive.
Bulk Upload
Import entire folder trees from the web UI or via the REST API. Duplicate detection prevents re-importing existing photos.
Privacy Controls
Mark individual photos or entire albums as private. Private content is hidden from shared views and never appears in public galleries.
Timeline Browsing
The timeline view groups photos by year and month, displaying each period as a scrollable strip of thumbnails. Clicking any month expands into a full-grid day-by-day view. Jump controls on the right edge let you leap to any year instantly.
Photos without timestamps are displayed in an "Undated" section at the bottom of the timeline and can be edited with the correct date at any time.
Album Creation
Albums are named collections you build manually or from selections in the timeline. A photo can belong to multiple albums simultaneously. Albums support a cover photo, description, and optional password protection for sharing with guests.
Album options
- →Smart Albums — automatically populated by rules (date range, location, tagged person).
- →Manual Albums — drag photos in from anywhere in the library.
- →Shared Albums — invite other users or generate a public share link.
Face Detection
After ingestion, a background job scans each photo for faces using a local ML model. Detected faces are clustered by similarity and presented as unnamed groups in the People view. Assign a name to a cluster and FluxPlay will merge future matches automatically.
Face detection can be disabled entirely in Admin → Libraries → Photos if privacy or performance constraints require it. Existing face data is deleted when the feature is disabled.
Device Auto-Backup
The FluxPlay iOS and Android apps include a background sync service. When connected to a configured Wi-Fi network, new camera roll photos are uploaded to the server. Each device gets its own named folder under the owning user's photo library.
Sync configuration
- →Wi-Fi only (default) or allow cellular
- →Include videos alongside photos
- →Delete from device after successful upload
- →Upload in original quality or compressed
